Collections
The National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova owns more than 200,000 objects of historical, documentary, and artistic value, some of which belong to the national treasury of culture. All the Museum items are organized in collections by the following fields: archaeology – 17,376, numismatics – 53,870, documents – 23,800, photographs – 15,753, books – 8,503, periodicals – 22,608, arms and armour – 1,560, textile collection – 4,400, household items – 6,273, technical equipment – 702, art – 6,972, philately – 35,807, history – 11,773.

The collection consists of 17,376 objects (the core fund), which came from archaeological excavations, random finds, acquisitions, donations, and transfers and date back to the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze, and Iron Ages, Roman Era, pre-feudal period, and the Middle Ages.... |
Collection of Historical Exhibits

It contains the objects of historical and memorial significance, dated from the 19th – 20th centuries, which are destined to recompose the ambience of bygone centuries, to reconstruct in exhibitions the atmosphere in which Moldavian cultural, historical, and political figures of the past lived and worked.... |

The collection includes 15,753 objects and consists of: Photographs (originals and copies), taken in photo studios in Moldova, Romania, Russia, and other European countries during 1860 - 2010, which can be attributed to many genres: photo portrait, landscape, ethnographic, documentary, and artistic photography, etc.... |
Book Collection

The Museum owns the collection of books that includes 8,503 volumes of the core fund, published in the 17th – 21st centuries in Moldova as well as in the different typographical centres of Europe. The collection consists of 24,608 periodicals of the 19th – 21st centuries, some of which being unique. Collection of Technical Equipment

It numbers 702 items, among which there are:Clocks and watches produced in the 18th – 20th centuries in Switzerland, France, Germany, and Russia. Collection of Art |

The collection numbers 6,972 objects classified by the following groups:Wooden icons dated from the 18th – 20th centuries, attributed to the Moldavian painting schools and the Russian painting schools (for the most part); Paintings of the 20th century. Development of Collections
The number of exhibits in the Museum collections is permanently growing through donations, acquisitions, field research and transfers. Thus, in 2009 the collections were enriched with 1,538 objects of historical and artistic significance, including 1,042 archaeological objects, 92 numismatic pieces, 29 photographs, 24 documents, 4 objects of weapon and military equipment, 95 ethnographic and household items, 13 objects of technical equipment, 29 objects of decorative art, 5 paintings, 70 philatelic objects, and 135 objects classified to “miscellanea”. Among the most valuable items entered the collections, we can mention: - Roman coins, 2nd century;
- dirhams, Golden Horde, 14th century;
- Gospel, Bucharest, 1750;
- ecclesiastic vestments, Bessarabia, early 19th century;
- measure units, Russia, 1857;
- photographs and household items from the painter Nicolae Coleadici’s family;
- documents and photographs that belonged to the member of the Country Council Ion Pantaru’s family;
- clothing that belonged to the composer Zlata Tcaci.
