Collection of Photographs
The collection includes 15,753 objects and consists of: - Photographs (originals and copies), taken in photo studios in Moldova, Romania, Russia, and other European countries during 1860 - 2010, which can be attributed to many genres: photo portrait, landscape, ethnographic, documentary, and artistic photography, etc. The collection represents a chronicle of economic, social, and cultural life, a succession of historical events; it reveals the images of peasants, townspeople, eminent persons. The collection can illustrate almost all Moldavian history of this period. The photographs of the 19th century, taken in the well-known photo studios of P. Kondratsky, A. Shumovsky, C. Tedesco, M. Tashker, A. Zozulin, A. Gisher, M. Zinger, and other masters of photography, deserve special attention due to their documentary and artistic significance.
