The "Old Coins - New Coins" exhibition is organized by the National Museum of History of Moldova as part of the International Financial Education Week, organized by the National Bank of Moldova. In this exhibition, the visiting public can see a lot of copper and silver coins of the Golden Horde, discovered in the territory of Costești, Ialoveni district, dated in the XIII-XIV centuries. Three monetary treasures are added to them, originating from different localities of our country. It is about the hoard from Caracușenii Vechi, Briceni district, dated between 1612-1648, which contains issues of orts and a Polish thaler from Emperor Sigismund III Wasa (1586-1632), thalers of the German states and thalers lei issued by the United Provinces, coin from which the name of our national currency comes. The second hoard, found in Bravicea, Călărași district in 1956, contains 18 monetary issues minted between 1576-1649, by the Romano-German Empire (7 ex.), the United Provinces (10 ex.) and Spain (1 e.g.). The monetary hoard from Crihana Veche, Cahul district, discovered in 1962, represents issues of the Ottoman Empire, Austria and Ragusa dated during the years 1765-1766.
The second part of the exhibition contains commemorative and circulation monetary issues minted by the National Bank of Moldova, representing pieces dedicated to eminent people in the field of culture and science, historical characters and events, as well as new style issues, containing color elements.
During the exhibition, interactive workshops on financial topics for children and young people will be organized throughout the week, with the aim of giving the younger generations the opportunity to be properly informed and form a solid foundation, to be able to evaluate the future economic situation and make correct financial decisions.
The exhibition can be visited between March 18 and 24, 2024, in room 1 on the ground floor of the National Museum of History of Moldova, Chisinau, 31 August 1989 street, 121A.
