The National Museum of History of Moldova presents the exhibition "Moldovan Summers" by British artist Lotta Camilla Teale, a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in the United Kingdom. Based in Chișinău since the summer of 2024, the artist works exclusively from life, either in the studio or outdoors, focusing on everyday subjects and local landscapes.
The works on display were created over the course of a year spent in Moldova-in gardens, on city streets, in the countryside, and in the studio. Subjects range from colourful houses and leafy rivers to still life objects found in Chișinău's markets. Summer provided the richest themes: sunflowers, fruits, foliage, garden scenes, and details from daily life.
Lotta Camilla Teale is a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, founded in 1882 and officially recognised in 1909. She was named "British Artist of the Year" in 2021 and has exhibited in galleries in London (Panter and Hall, Mall Galleries), Bath, New York, and Massachusetts. Her works are held in private collections across five continents.
The exhibition "Moldovan Summers" offers a close look at contemporary Moldova through the eyes of an artist from another cultural space-one who chose to observe, record, and translate familiar local details into painting. It is an invitation to revisit, recognise, and rediscover everyday elements within a restrained and direct artistic framework.
