The Roman bronze situla comes from a collection of archaeological artifacts confiscated at customs and transferred to the holdings of the National Museum of History of Moldova in 2009. Its place of discovery remains unknown.

A situla (Latin for "bucket") is a metal vessel-usually made of bronze-shaped like a pail and equipped with two movable handles at the top, traditionally used for mixing wine with water. The handles are attached to the vessel via two decorated ears that are welded to the rim.

The body of the situla is truncated-conical in shape and features two decorative bands with small circular patterns formed by hammering, located just below the rim.

Its base is double-layered: the inner bottom is hemispherical and hammered, while the outer bottom is flat and lathe-made. The outer base is welded to the inner bottom, serving as the vessel's foot-support.

This object was crafted using a combination of casting, hammering, and partial lathe-finishing. Dimensions: Maximum height - 31.7 cm; Maximum diameter - 22.8 cm; Base diameter - 13.5 cm

Situlae of this type originated in the Roman Empire and were later adopted by various ancient peoples, including those from the northwestern Pontic region.

The first issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova

The National Museum of History of Moldova presents, as the exhibit of the month for August, the first issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova, published in August 1994. This issue is a reference document in the legislative history of the Republic of Moldova, being the first edition of the state's official publication.

The Official Gazette, Year 1, No. 1, documents the first legislative acts and presidential decrees following the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. Published by the State Directorate for Informational Assurance (MOLDPRES), this inaugural issue includes laws, documents adopted by Parliament, presidential decrees, and international acts, reflecting the state's efforts to ensure transparency and inform its citizens.

The contents of this issue include:
• The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova: The full publication of the Constitution, adopted on July 29, 1994, which forms the legal foundation of the state. The Constitution establishes the essential principles and norms for the functioning of society and state institutions.
• The Decree Promulgating the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova: The official act promulgating the Constitution, signed by the President of the Republic of Moldova, marking the entry into force of the Supreme Law on August 27, 1994.
• The Law on the Manner of Publication and Entry into Force of Official Acts: Detailed regulations regarding the procedures for the publication and implementation of adopted legislation.
• The Decision Ensuring the Publication of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova: Administrative decisions for organizing and operating this official publication.
• A Word to the Reader: An introductory message for the readers of the first edition of the Official Gazette, highlighting the importance of transparency and access to information.
This exhibit also marks the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, a significant moment in the country's modern history. The 1994 Constitution was a crucial step in establishing democracy and the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova.

The Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova is the tool through which laws and official acts become accessible to the public. The first edition, from August 1994, symbolizes the beginning of legislative transparency and an efficient administration in the Republic of Moldova.
