The Roman bronze situla comes from a collection of archaeological artifacts confiscated at customs and transferred to the holdings of the National Museum of History of Moldova in 2009. Its place of discovery remains unknown.

A situla (Latin for "bucket") is a metal vessel-usually made of bronze-shaped like a pail and equipped with two movable handles at the top, traditionally used for mixing wine with water. The handles are attached to the vessel via two decorated ears that are welded to the rim.

The body of the situla is truncated-conical in shape and features two decorative bands with small circular patterns formed by hammering, located just below the rim.

Its base is double-layered: the inner bottom is hemispherical and hammered, while the outer bottom is flat and lathe-made. The outer base is welded to the inner bottom, serving as the vessel's foot-support.

This object was crafted using a combination of casting, hammering, and partial lathe-finishing. Dimensions: Maximum height - 31.7 cm; Maximum diameter - 22.8 cm; Base diameter - 13.5 cm

Situlae of this type originated in the Roman Empire and were later adopted by various ancient peoples, including those from the northwestern Pontic region.

Autumn school “Dialogue between young people from both banks of the Dniester for the edification of the European culture of memory and the promotion of democratic values. The implementation of good practices between Lithuania and Moldova”

The Museum of Victims of Deportations and Political Repressions of the National Museum of History of Moldova, in partnership with the Institute of History of the Moldova State University, the "Alecu Russo" State University of Bălți and the Institute Center of Excellence Pro Memoria, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, during 1-3 November 2023, organized the Autumn School "Dialogue between young people from both banks of the Dniester for the edification of the European culture of memory and the promotion of democratic values. The implementation of good practices between Lithuania and Moldova".

Through the activities implemented during the Autumn School, public lectures, round tables, case studies and field studies, a communication platform was created for the young people from both banks of the Dniester, addressing issues of the history of totalitarian regimes and their consequences on societies today. In particular, attention was paid to the memory and places of memory related to the Soviet totalitarian past in the context of the processes and efforts of democratization and establishment in the Republic of Moldova of a European culture of memory. The participants of the Autumn School conducted field studies in Tiraspol, on the site known as the "Vladimir" Bastion, where in previous years the mass execution pits were discovered, from the period of the Great Terror (1937-1938). They also visited the Tighina Fortress, the Monument to the victims of Holocaust from this locality, and the Memorial Complex "Capul de pod Şerpeni".
