ReadFest 2025
June 21, 2025
On June 21, 2025, the courtyard of the National Museum of History of Moldova was transformed into a realm of imagination and discovery as it hosted ReadFest-an event dedicated to interactive reading, organized by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Culture.
Held as part of Parenting Month, the event celebrated reading as a vital tool in children's development, emphasizing its role in nurturing curiosity, empathy, and intergenerational connection. The atmosphere came alive with read-aloud sessions, creative workshops, diction exercises, a puppet theater show, and moments of sincere dialogue among children, parents, and educators.
The event was part of the national program "Read Me 100 Stories", launched by UNICEF and its partners in April 2025. The program aims to make reading a daily habit in kindergartens and families across the country by setting up reading islands and distributing tens of thousands of age-appropriate books. So far, over 26,000 books have reached 1,200 kindergartens, contributing to the early development of approximately 110,000 children, including those from vulnerable communities.
Among those attending the event were Sergiu Prodan, Minister of Culture; Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research; and Maha Damaj, UNICEF Country Representative in Moldova. They each underscored the importance of reading as a form of emotional and intellectual bonding between adults and children, highlighting the powerful synergy between education, culture, and community engagement. Reading together means more than learning-it means quality time, safety, and support.
By hosting ReadFest, the National Museum of History reaffirms its role as a space for community and cultural inclusion, open to its youngest readers. The magic of stories-spoken and written-remains one of the strongest bridges between generations, and the museum is honored to be part of this journey.
