#Exhibit of the Month

The National Bank of Moldova annually issues commemorative or anniversary coins dedicated to various historical events, prominent cultural and scientific figures, the promotion of heritage and cultural traditions, architectural monuments, the flora and fauna of the Republic of Moldova, etc. A significant place in the coin series of the Republic of Moldova is held by those reflecting key milestones in the formation and development of our country. These coins are the subject of this mini-exhibition:

“A.V. Shchusev: Life Devoted to Architecture”

September 4 – October 9, 2013

On September 4, at the National Museum of History of Moldova it was opened the exhibition "A.V. Shchusev: Life Devoted to Architecture", an event dedicated to the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the birth of talented architect A.V. Shchusev born in Chisinau in a family of intellectuals.

The commemorative exhibition reflects his bright life entirely devoted to architecture on the basis of authentic materials from the museum collection.

There are presented about 100 original museum pieces: photographs, architectural designs, books, paintings, and letters; the chronological framework of the exhibition includes the period between 1873 and 1949. Among the exhibits there can be highlighted: projects for the restoration of the Saint Basil Cathedral in Ovruch (Ukraine), for the construction of the Holy Trinity Church at Pochaiv (Ukraine), the Holy Trinity Church at Cuhurestii de Sus (Bessarabia), the Saints Martha and Mary Church in Moscow (Russia), the Saint Nicholas Church in Bari (Italy), the ensemble of Kazansky railway station in Moscow, the Institute of History in Tbilisi (Georgia), the Opera and Ballet Theater in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and the Inturist Hotel in Baku (Azerbaijan), as well as the Chisinau postwar reconstruction project.

The exhibition is open to the public in the 1st floor hall from September 4 to October 10, 2013.
