August 23, 2025
On August 23, 2025, the National Museum of History of Moldova hosted the roundtable titled "The Division of Europe - Consequences of the Hitler-Stalin Pact," an event organized in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Institute of Social History in Berlin-Karlshorst. The gathering marked a day of profound reflection on the historical impact of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, 86 years after its signing, and provided a platform for dialogue among historians, researchers, cultural institution representatives, and the interested public.
The roundtable was moderated by Prof. Dr. hab. Sergiu Musteață. Special guests included Prof. Anatol Petrencu, Ion Negrei, Dr. Ruslan Șevcenco, and Dr. Viorel Cojocaru, who addressed the political and social implications of the pact on the territory of present-day Republic of Moldova. Their contributions highlighted the direct consequences of territorial annexations, deportations, and political repression, as well as the ways in which these events have shaped collective memory and national identity.
The roundtable was not only an act of commemoration, but also a commitment to promoting historical education and civic dialogue. Through such initiatives, the National Museum of History of Moldova reaffirms its role as a space of memory, research, and responsibility toward the past.
