#Exhibit of the Month

The National Bank of Moldova annually issues commemorative or anniversary coins dedicated to various historical events, prominent cultural and scientific figures, the promotion of heritage and cultural traditions, architectural monuments, the flora and fauna of the Republic of Moldova, etc. A significant place in the coin series of the Republic of Moldova is held by those reflecting key milestones in the formation and development of our country. These coins are the subject of this mini-exhibition:

„Chisinau: History in pictures”

March 31 – April 15, 2011

The exhibition "Chisinau. History in pictures" based on photographs by Iurie Raileanu was organized by the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova in collaboration with the National Archives of the Republic of Moldova with the support of the Municipality of Chisinau. It is dedicated to the 575^thanniversary of the first documentary mention of Chisinau.

More than 50 photographs reflect architectural charm of some buildings and places of old and contemporary Chisinau and presents portraits of some persons of the past and present days.

Photographs of early 20^th and early 21^st centuries captured the city's appearance and its changes. The exhibition not only presents the current view on the state of Chisinau architectural heritage, but also makes the public think about the consequences of architectural decline experienced by the city today.

It is complemented with cameras of the first half of the 20^th century from the museum collections.
