#Exhibit of the Month

The National Bank of Moldova annually issues commemorative or anniversary coins dedicated to various historical events, prominent cultural and scientific figures, the promotion of heritage and cultural traditions, architectural monuments, the flora and fauna of the Republic of Moldova, etc. A significant place in the coin series of the Republic of Moldova is held by those reflecting key milestones in the formation and development of our country. These coins are the subject of this mini-exhibition:

„Ion Hâncu. Man. Personality. Scholar”

April 20 - May 17, 2017

On the occasion of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, the National Museum of History of Moldova opened on April 20, 2017, an exhibition dedicated to scientist Ion Hâncu, one of the most iconic and famous personalities of postwar Moldovan archeology and author of 400 scientific titles and works for popularization of archaeological and historical heritage.

The exhibition is a chronology of Ion Hâncu's life and scientific activity: successful young researcher, careful researcher of medieval sites, mediaevalist archaeologist of high prestige, very good connoisseur of Romanian material culture of the Middle Ages. The exhibition aims at showing the cultural inheritance - archaeological remains discovered at Hansca, Lucașeuca, Pohărniceni-Petruha, Brănești, Costești, Proscureni, Mateuți, Tighina fortress etc. - and scientific inheritance of the renowned researcher.

The exhibition is organized by the National Museum of History of Moldova in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Museum of Antiquities "Tudor Arnăut" of the Faculty of History and Philosophy of MSU.

At the opening event was released the book: Ion HÂNCU, SCARA VIEȚII, Chișinău, 2017. Edited by Gheorghe Postică.
