Round Table “Prehistoric Archaeology: In Memoriam Stanislav Țerna (1984-2020)”

On September 9, 2024, the Round Table dedicated to the memory of archaeologist Stanislav Țerna took place in the Blue Hall of the National Museum of History of Moldova. The event brought together colleagues, friends, and specialists in prehistoric archaeology who paid tribute and highlighted his remarkable contributions to the study of the Eneolithic period in Moldova and Romania. The event was moderated by Prof. univ. Dr. hab. Gheorghe Postică, who opened the discussions with a welcome message, followed by Dr. hab. Eugen Sava. A series of scientific presentations underscored Stanislav Țerna's biographical journey and achievements. Eduard Țerna provided a personal perspective on his brother's life and career, while Dr. Igor Manzura highlighted his scientific rise within prehistoric research. International contributions were represented through online presentations by Dr. Andreea Țerna (University of Kiel, Germany), Mariana Vasilache (Lyon, France), Dr. Knut Rassmann (RGK Frankfurt, Germany), and Dr. Johannes Müller (University of Kiel, Germany), discussing the Stolniceni project. Dr. Jessica Schmauderer presented scientific analyses of Cucuteni-Trypillia sites in Moldova. Additionally, Dr. Felix Adrian Tencariu and Maria Cristina Ciobanu (Iași, Romania) highlighted Stanislav Țerna's contributions to experimental archaeology in Iași, emphasizing his recent collaborations. Dr. Ghenadie Sîrbu (SUM) reviewed his archaeological collaborations with Stanislav Țerna at Trinca and other Eneolithic settlements in Moldova. From his experience as a colleague, Dr. Denis Topal (MNIM) provided a detailed analysis of Stanislav Țerna's complex personality, emphasizing his essential role in archaeological research. The event concluded with evocative tributes from Dr. Mariana Sîrbu and Dr. Aurel Zanoci, celebrating a multifaceted individual who left an indelible mark on the field of prehistoric archaeology. The Round Table was an emotional moment of reflection on Stanislav Țerna's scientific legacy, highlighting his significant impact on the archaeological community.
