On Monday, November 5, 2012, at the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova, in the room of medieval history, it was held the ceremony of presentation of the Stephen the Great's sword, recently received as a gift from the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by the Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
The ceremony of presentation of the sword, exhibited in a glass case in the middle of the room of medieval history, was attended by Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
The copy of Stephen the Great's sword was donated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova to Soroca Museum of History and Ethnography for the Soroca Fortress. Until 2014 it will be exhibited at the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova, and then will be delivered to the Soroca Fortress.
The event was attended by over 100 people - officials, MPs, diplomats, representatives of the clergy, scholars, researchers, teachers, journalists, and students.
The event was moderated by Dr. Ion Varta, director of the State Archives of the Republic of Moldova. There gave the speeches: Prime Minister Vlad Filat, director of the Museum of History and Ethnography of Soroca Nicolae Bulat, general director of the Theoretical Liceums „Orizont" Turgay Serik, and deputy director of the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova Dr. Elena Postică.
This was followed by the ceremony of transmission of the sword copy from Prime Minister Vlad Filat to the director of the Museum of History and Ethnography of Soroca and placing it in the glass case of the NMAHM's room for temporary display.
At the end of the ceremony, a group of priests headed by Metropolitan Vladimir performed the song "When Stephen was dying."
This cultural event was dedicated to the outstanding political and military leader. His glorious deeds will always be a model and example for future generations.
