#Exhibit of the Month

The National Bank of Moldova annually issues commemorative or anniversary coins dedicated to various historical events, prominent cultural and scientific figures, the promotion of heritage and cultural traditions, architectural monuments, the flora and fauna of the Republic of Moldova, etc. A significant place in the coin series of the Republic of Moldova is held by those reflecting key milestones in the formation and development of our country. These coins are the subject of this mini-exhibition:

11th Numismatic Symposium

On the 3rd and 4th of September, 2010 at the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova there was carried out the 11th Numismatic Symposium held by the Museum, the Institute of Archaeology “Vasile Parvan” of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest), and the Numismatic Society of the Republic of Moldova. The event was attended by specialists in numismatics and other related sciences (faleristics, heraldry, toreutics) from France, Romania, Ukraine, Germany, and the Republic of Moldova. It should be particularly noted the presence of Dr. Georges Depeyrot (Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris), the coordinator of the European Research Convention (Groupement de Recherche Européen (GDRE)) «Trouvailles monétaires». The Republic of Moldova participates in the Convention being represented by specialists from the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova and the Institute of Cultural Heritage. Within the framework of the Symposium there was held a public session of the GDRE Project with the participation of Moldavian and Romanian laboratories.

Romania was represented at the Symposium by the researchers from Bucharest, Tulcea, and Suceava: Eugen Nicolae (Deputy Director for Science), Aurel Vilcu, and Theodor Isvoranu from the Institute of Archaeology “Vasile Parvan” of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest); Monica Dejan from the Museum of Bucovina (Suceava); and Aurel Stanica from the Museum of History and Archaeology from Tulcea.

As always, the Symposium was attended by researchers from Ukraine. This time there were Irina Korpusova, a numismatist from the Museum of Archaeology, and Irina Ozeryanskaya from the Museum of Local History (Odesa). Among the regular participants of the Symposium we should mention Andrei Krivenko from Tiraspol.

At the Symposium there were presented about 20 scientific reports; many materials from the fields of ancient, medieval eastern and European, and modern numismatics, as well as from faleristics, heraldry, toreutics, and other related fields, were put into scientific use or discussed.
