Concept Project: “7000 Years Under Wine”
April 30, 2026
On April 30, 2026, the National Museum of History of Moldova hosted the presentation of the project concept "7000 Years Under Wine." This initiative aims to highlight the deep connection between archaeological heritage and Moldova's winemaking tradition, integrating them into the contemporary discourse on identity, country branding, and European belonging.
During the event, key milestones in the history of winemaking within the current territory of the Republic of Moldova and the surrounding region were highlighted. These roots trace back to the Cucuteni-Trypillia Civilization, confirming a tradition that spans over 7,000 years.
"7,000 Years Under Wine" is an initiative that restores the profound cultural dimension of Moldovan wine. It offers an opportunity to rediscover Moldova's wine, to continue its story, and to enhance its value even before it is savored.
The project also serves as an open invitation to collaboration: winemakers, researchers, and partners are joining forces to shed light on the complexity of local winemaking. Their efforts will encompass everything from archaeological research and laboratory analysis to the creation of a wine museum, organizing conferences, and producing documentaries.
The event marked the official launch of the project, initiated by the Public Association "7000", with the support of the Culture Platform, and funded by the European Union through the "Confidence Building Measures" Programme (EU-SBM-VI), implemented by UNDP Moldova.
