International action devoted to the European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes
 On August 23, the day the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact was signed in 1939, we honor the memory of all the victims of the criminal actions of National Socialism and Communism.
The National Museum of History of Moldova supports this year as well the commemorative action initiated by the European Memory and Solidarity Network in 2013 "Remember. 23 August" with the aim of commemorating the victims of the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century. The European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes was proclaimed by the European Parliament on September 23, 2008. This day was commemorated for the first time in 2011 in Warsaw, under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the European Union. In the Republic of Moldova, the Executive instituted August 23 as the European Day of Commemoration of the Victims of all Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes, such as Nazism, Stalinism, Fascist and Communist Regimes, on August 21, 2019. The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity is an international initiative aimed at the study, documentation and dissemination of knowledge about 20th-century European history and forms of its commemoration, with particular consideration given to periods of dictatorship, war and social upheaval in the face of oppression.
