Scholar Eugen Sava at 70

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the Blue Hall of the National Museum of History of Moldova hosted the academic anniversary event celebrating the 70th birthday of Dr. Hab. Eugen Sava-a prominent figure in the culture and science of the Republic of Moldova, a dedicated researcher, a visionary museologist, and a leader who left a lasting mark on the development of the National Museum of History of Moldova.
The event brought together representatives of central public authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, distinguished figures from the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, national and international academic communities, as well as colleagues and researchers from across the museum network. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Hab. Gheorghe Postică (National Museum of History of Moldova).
The ceremony opened with an official address by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, Dan Suruceanu, followed by a tribute message from the administration of the National Museum of History of Moldova, delivered by Alexandru Argint, Livia Ermurachi, and Olga Andranovici. The speech highlighted the exceptional contribution of Dr. Hab. Eugen Sava to strengthening the institution's standing, as well as protecting and promoting national heritage throughout his two decades of museum management.
A focal point of the agenda was the launch of the anniversary volume Tyragetia, New Series, Vol. XX [XXXV], No. 1, "Archaeology. Ancient History," presented by Dr. Aurel Zanoci. The periodical publication features specialized studies and scientific contributions dedicated to the honoree's historical and archaeological career.
During the institutional greetings section, remarks were delivered by Dr. Hab. Liliana Condraticova, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova; Mrs. Monica Babuc, Director of the "Mihai Eminescu" Romanian Cultural Institute in Chișinău; Dr. Hab. Igor Șarov, Vice-Rector of the Moldova State University, alongside Dr. Igor Bercu, Dean of the Faculty of History and Philosophy (MSU); Dr. Octavian Munteanu, "Ion Creangă" State Pedagogical University; Dr. Ramona Mocanu, Manager of the "Ștefan cel Mare" County Museum in Vaslui; and Dr. Marius Alexianu, "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași.
The session continued with speeches from close colleagues and friends: Dr. Anatol Țăranu (Institute of History), Dr. Mariana Sîrbu (NMHM), and Dr. Igor Corman.
The event served as an academic and institutional recognition of the scientific accomplishments, managerial qualities, and mentorship provided by Dr. Hab. Eugen Sava in shaping several generations of specialists in the fields of history and archaeology.
